Windows XP Home.
I click Start --- then All Programs.
I then find the All Programs display is white and showing no detail.
The display then freezes for about 45 seconds, does not react, and then
reverts back to normal. Help please.

For Pentium 3 this was a common problem with WinXP. Pentium 4 rarely. For
your processor, I have no idea.

I've never seen it on a properly setup P3 computer running Windows XP.

A typical hang, when showing My Documents, is a link to a network that
you no longer have access to, same for Recent Documents, and some others
that show up in the Windows XP theme (instead of the Classic Theme).

Clear the recently used documents and all histories, see if it still
happens. You should also removed the cached My Network Places folders.

I speak mainly of earlier Intel processors with non-intel chipsets = common
problems like these.
