Cleaning registry & DLLs?

Hi

None!!!! The XP Registry looks afer itself. Trying to phrick around with
the Registry using any of these so called Registry 'cleaners' can cause more
problems than they are worth and could render your PC unusable. Please
leave the Registry alone!!

V-Com's program called Fix-It does a very good job. www.v-com.com I've been
using it successfully for years and it does not cause problems, as implied
in other postings.

Why do you insist on pepetrating your fear of the registry ojn others? There
are several good registry cleaners available. Just because you have this fear
you are negative against them. Why don't you learn what the registry is all
about?

"ojn" - a word not know in these NGs. Perhaps you could elucidate? There
are *****NO**** good Registry cleaners. Take it from someone who has a
'few' emails each day referring to this problem and an unbootable system!!!!

Registry cleaners are for people who are easily taken in by hype.
Unfortunately, these are the same people who are ill equipped to dig
themselves out of the trouble these toys cause. We read their desperate
pleas for help in these newsgroups every day.

Based upon the number of e mails concerning problems with systems, I see far
more refering to SP2 than to Registry Cleaners. Based upon your logic
perhaps you should advise not to install SP2? :).

I do not remember seeing any reports in these NGs of system problems that
are attributed to using Registry Cleaners. Your statements that Registry
Cleaners make the machine unbootable I believe are false. Even if the
current version of the registry becomes corrupted the machine will boot to
allow installation of 'last good configuration'. Further, I believe the OS
prevents the deletion of essential files. I do, however, accept the value
of Registry Cleaners are debateable.

Hi

SP2 is OK to install. Any existing problems need to sorted out before
upgrading.

The following articles are very useful for SP2 pre-installation:

"Introduction to Windows XP Service Pack 2" - by Barb Bowman

"What to Know Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service Pack 2"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

Registry 'cleaners' cause all kinds of havoc. Try a search here:

Your language implies anger more than it implies knowledge.

I have used this program for years and never once has it caused me problems.
I realize tat this factual information will mean nothing to you but, as they
say. what the ****-
it's better than thinking ny day!

Hello BigMan ,

If you are asking about a good RegCleaner i you should know that MS does
not recomend editing or messing around with the Windows registry.

However if you are like me and don't give a crap what MS or anybody else
for that matter thinks about what I do with my PC than you can try this neat
little Program.

JV16 Power tools: http://www.macecraft.com/

Be aware that messing with your registry and cause windows NOT TO BOOT and
make a possable reinstall of your OS necessary , if you DO NOT KNOW HOW TO
REINSTALL YOUR OS I recomend not messing around with any reg cleaners.

With that being said , I have used JV16 PT for 2 years now and have had NO
PROBLEMS , it gives you options to remove what it considers to be SAFE TO
REMOVE and MAY NOT BE SAFE TO REMOVE options (red and green marked files) and
allows you to backup what you are removing.

I have found that keeping a tight HDD and cleaning weekly of my registry
and also removing all Spy/Ad ware kepps XP running at its very best. After 9
months of constant running (NEVER TURNING OFF) the only problems I have had
that made for a windows crash and reinstall was XP SP2 , I have an AMD 64 CPU
and it has a known problem with SP2's DEP feature.

but you should ONLY do what you feel you can handle comfortably.

GOOD LUCK ,

Rob

Whatever!!
All the guy wanted to know is about a good RegCleaner , he was warned and
insulted by 10 worthless posts and I gave him an option and the ONLY warning
he needs.

BigMan be advised once again so Ted will be happy (as if that might ever
happen): MESSING WITH YOUR REGISTRY IN ANY WAY CAN CAUSE WINDOWS NOT TO BOOT.

And try your questions here: http://computercops.biz/forums.html

The folks at this forum I posted are nice and responsive to your
needs/questions only , they don't feel it necessary to insult or belittle you
for asking a question.

and to think all I wanted to do was ask a question about SP2 and then I wind
up in this crapfest for trying to help a guy guy out..LOL!!

Good Luck BigMan!!

I have been using JV16 Power tools for about 2 1/2 years and have yet to have
a problem with it. It is outstanding.
