Cisco VPN Installation "Plug and Play" access denied Error

This crops up when attempting to install Cisco VPN 3000
software, and specifically, during the part of the
installation when the installer attempts to install the
Virtual Network Adapter.

I've done all the recommended stuff for uninstalling
previous versions, and manually cleaning a few other
things out of the registry, but, despite all that, when I
attempt to install it, I get this error:

Cisco Virtual Adapter Installer

UpdateDriverforPlugandPlayDevicesError:
Access is denied

and, as you might expect, I cannot establish a connection
to my corporate network over my home broadband connection
(all other network activities, including direct
connection to the corporate network at the office) work
fine. Any idea what might cause this particular error
message and what I might do about it?

You'll want to check with Cisco for this - the installer is outside the
control of Windows.
