Church Sacramental Records Database

I am volunteering at my church and they would like to input all of there Sacramental Records from there books dating back to 1800. Is there a software or database that I could use that would be user friendly?? I would really appreciate it...

Are you copying these records into text or scanning documents?

Whichever you're doing the resulting data could just be stored in folders, either alphabetically or by date, for instance.

Of databases MS Access is probably the most commonly used but I believe Libre Office - which is free - also has a database program.
