choppy playback of movies

kayode

I used to be able to watch movies on my laptop which is a
Pentium 2 (400MHz)with 256Mb RAM, running Windows XP and
DirectX 9.0 installed. Now for some reason, I can only
watch movies at the smallest resolution of about 50% or a
maximum of 100%. Any attempt to watch movies in larger
resolutions or full screen mode, results in the video
becoming very slow and choppy.
I am running Windows Media Player 9.0 and my laptop
screen resolution is 1024 x 768. Kindly help as I no
longer enjoy squinting at the screen. Thanks

Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers for the onboard chip from the
notebook manufacturer's website.....

How much RAM is allocated to the onboard chip? Have you thought about
increasing the amount of RAM you have on the motherboard? What other
programs are you also running at the same time as watching 'movies'.... and
what is their source (online, hard drive, DVD) etc?
