chkdsk error

i'm running a program which needs to create a file on my
hard drive as it runs, for some reason it will not, when
talking to tech support@ the venders site, i was told
it's most likely a disk error and to run scandisk, don't
have that so i ran chkdsk. when windows is running chkdsk
says it needs exclusive disk access & will run at re-
boot. i re-boot, and when chkdsk tries to run, it errors
trying to access "system volume information". i have no
clue what to do now, i tried a 3rd party scanner, but it
was less than useless. any help would be greatly
appreciated as i'm now very concerned about the integrity
of my drive and my data. i'm running xp/pro sp1, all
updates current, also run zone alarm pro(current), and
norton a/v with daily manual updates to my def's file.
according to both of those programs, all is well, but
they both load @ start, could they be the problem? i also
do not allow any other programs except windows components
to load at start & have even disabled messenger(using
Gibson Research "shoot the messenger")

If you are running the new 5.0 version of Zone Alarm Pro remove it and contact Zone Alarm and download the older version. I have seen where the new version of Zone Alarm causes this problem. Good Luck.
