chkdsk corrupts data

I 'm having a problem in my win 2000 system. The data on the 250 MB hard disk
is all corrupted. I had sp4 installed and there was the lba 48 entry in the
registry. I accidentally removed that entry. That caused at the begining some
inconcistency problems on the HD. I 've run the chkdsk /f /r command to fix
the problems. The file system seems ok but the files are all corrupted. Now
i' ve re-enter the lba 48 support on the registry and i would like to know if
there is a way to recover my lost data. I 've used "Recover my files" and
"EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard 3.3.4" with no success. Is there any way to undo
the chkdsk 'corrections' ??

No, there is no way of undoing the changes done by chkdsk. You can
consult with data recovery firms and have them try to recover the lost
files beyond the 137GB barrier and try to reassemble the .chk files but
that will be a very expensive recovery job, if they can do it! If you
want to try this by yourself you can try Studio-R recovery software.

You might want to ask for further advice and help here:

data recovery professionals, they might have other advice to offer.

John thanks for your response.
I forgot to mention that my disk was partirioned in two disks < 128 GB, G: &
H:. The corrupted data are all in the 2nd partition H:. Do you or anyone else
know a good recovery program? As for the .chk files there are just 2-3. The
rest of the file system seems intact. Are there any chances of recovering
something, or should i proceed to formatting the disk?

Ask the folks on the forum I pointed you to earlier. The forum is
monitored by data recovery experts, they have most likely dealt with
48-bit lba data loss issues and they will have knowledge and experience
required to help and offer solid advice.

For software recovery Try R-Studio. http://www.r-studio.com/ or
something here might help: http://www.dtidata.com/
