chkdsk at boot doesn't run

I use the Diskeeper defragmenter and am generally happy with it. When I
set up a boot-time defrag and select the setting to force a chkdsk, it
fails - this is new behavior. When the system boots, chkdsk DOES NOT
run. As the system continues to boot, Diskeeper pops up a window
informing me that I cannot run a manual defrag because the system is set
to run chkdsk at boot. But chkdsk doesn't run. Any ideas?

TIA

Diskeeper is "screwing with the xp boot configuration," not me. And it
does a much better job than the cut-down Diskeeper that ships with XP.

Thanks for your helpful response.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already looked there before I posted
and didn't find anything useful. FWIW, this problem really has nothing
to do with Diskeeper. If I request a boot-time chkdsk via
Properties/Tools in MyComputer the same thing happens. So I guess now
the question is how to reset the Dirty Bit so I don't get the warning on
every boot. I'm fairly sure the filesystem is ok - chkdsk, without the
options that require that it run during boot, doesn't report any
problem.

What error are you getting when you try to run CHKDSK?
There's no error per se. When the machine boots, Diskeeper pops open a
window and says that the volume is scheduled for a boot-time chkdsk run
and informs that Diskeeper cannot defragment the volume until the chkdsk
run occurs. The problem is that the system does *not* run chkdsk as it
should on boot - it skates right ahead and boots XP normally.

I have read about the ZoneAlarm business, but I'm not using it. But I
had been wondering about trying via the Recovery Console and will do so
- thanks for suggesting it. I submitted a query to Executive Software to
see if there's a known issue with Diskeeper and haven't heard from them
yet. They've been quite responsive in the past.

Yes! That worked. I wasn't sure if the Recovery Console would have the
same problem with dismounting the volume that happens when XP is running
normally, but it didn't. It spent a long time repairing apparent damage
and all seems well now.

Thanks for the update. Glad that worked! :)
Well, it let me run chkdsk, but there is still a problem with boot-time
tasks not running. chkdsk still gets skipped on a normal boot and a
Diskeeper boot-time run (without chkdsk) gives an error that it cannot
gain access to the volume, suggesting that "another task" has it
reserved. Any ideas for figuring out what this other task might be? I've
looked in logs and haven't found anything useful yet.
