Chinese characters from pinyin

I am studying the Chinese language with books and CD's. I would appreciate
any leads on websites that can help me. I am especially interested in a
freeware conversion tool that will convert pinyin to Chinese characters on a
non-Chinese Windows XP computer. Thanks!

I think you need a Chinese input software such as Chinese Star
(payware).

Hello-

You may be able to get some help at:

http://www.mandarintools.com/cedict.html

There is a web-based dictionary that takes a pinyin input at:

There is a great freeware dictionary program called Wakan, but I
can't access the site. Perhaps someone else has some information.

Yours-

Marc

P.S: For what it's worth, I think the best way to learn the
characters is to write them, over and over. Learn the proper stroke
sequence, traditional forms first(many books available), and keep
writing, compounds and simple sentences. I don't think a computer
monitor is the place to learn the characters.
