Chieftek PSU Mod

I'd like to mod my psu to make it quieter by replacing the original
fan with a enermax or panaflow quiet fan. How can i work out how much
air flow i need over the unit to keep it cool to the standard it is
with the original fan? My power supply unit is a 340w that comes with
chieftec's dragon series case (hpc-360-202).

Get the model of the actual fan in the PSU and then google for it.

You will probably need to take the back off the PSU, so be very
careful as you could get a severe electric shock and go bang !

You should be able to find some info on the fan, so you can match the
air flow.

Just remember that the PSU fan also provides airflow for the computer
case. Significantly reducing the CFM of the PSU fan may not only increase
PSU internal temperatures, but also other computer component temperatures.

Decrease PSU CFM by just a little, if at all. You don't know how much
headroom you have!

if youre reducing the cfm cant stay to the same standard you had with a
higher cfm fan. that said, i did the same mod to my fortron FSP400-60PFN
with a panaflo M1A and haven't had any problems and the fan never cranks up
to it's full speed so it must be ok.

if your PSU thermally controls the fan, like mine does, i'd use a panaflo
M1A. if the fan always runs at full speed i'd use an L1A or a nexus real
silent fan.

Get an engineering degree and become a power-supply designer?

You could swap your supply for one that is out of the box as quiet as
you want.

HardwareCooling.com has the Vantec Stealth 470watt and Stealth 420
watt power supply. I purchased the 420watt psu a few weeks ago and in
my opinion I think it's fairly quiet compared to the stock psu.
