Checking FP extensions?

S

Susan

To check if site has FP extensions, you enter
www.mysite/_vti_inf.html in the address bar of the internet browser? Does
this always work? Is it always html?

If the site has FP extensions installed you will obtain the following?

FrontPage Configuration Information
In the HTML comments, this page contains configuration information that the
FrontPage Explorer and FrontPage Editor need to communicate with the
FrontPage server extensions installed on this web server. Do not delete this
page.

If the site does not have FP extensions then the page will not be found.

Thanks for information.

Yes, enter http://www.mysite.com/_vti_inf.html and yes the extension will always be .html.

If the extensions are installed you will see page with the heading "FrontPage Configuration
Information".

If the extensions are not installed, you will get a 404 Page not Found error.

That tells you if they are there, not necessarily if they are working...right?

Interesting. I know my site has the extensions installed as I use several
FP components like form results to email and guestbook. I also had my host
reset them last week due to a problem, so why do I get the page not found
error..? Host is running linux if that makes a difference..?

Can you do this kind of check on your own machine to? How would you address
it?

thanks

You can only do it on your machine if you have Windows XP Pro with IIS installed with the
extensions. The default FP2000 extensions differ in how you run a check as compared to the FP2002
extensions.

Ok, then Control Panel | Admin. Tools | Sharepoint Admin. (has IE page icon), look for Server Health
Check.
