checkdisk

My father has XP home, and while booting up one day recently, a message came
up that asked him if he would like to run checkdisk the next time he started
his computer. ( He also has Norton Disk Doctor), and he clicked yes. Now
every time he boots up, he has to go through about 5 minutes of chkdisk
info. How to disable this? He wrote Norton, and they sent him 6 pages of
what to do, but from I read, it sounds like they are telling him to set up
the checkdisk, not disable it, and they also mentioned something about
changing the pagefile to a different partition in order to unlock the files
, or something or another. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone,
and do you know how he can disable this feature. He tried to do Go Back with
Norton, and he cannot. Also, his standby freezes his computer up. I know
that all systems are not able to hibernate, but aren't they all supposed to
go into stand by? Help, please. Thank you.
