Check for Consistency

My Windowsxp suddenly developed an annoying habit. My drive is partitioned.
Half way through each boot-up my screen changes to blue and I am informed :
"Check For Consistency! - One of your disks needs to be checked for
consistency. To stop click on any letter within 9 seconds." Etc.
I defrag my partitions regularily. Each of them works with-in its
parameters. How do I stop this behaviour? Thanks for any answer!

Check your hard drive for errors. Download a diagnostic utility from the
drive mftr.'s website. You will normally make a bootable floppy from
the downloaded program. Boot with the floppy and do a thorough test. If
the drive has errors, back up your data and replace the drive.
