Check Disk with XP

I'll be getting a new computer with Windows XP Home Edition later this
year, but I have tinkered around with a few PC's that run this operating
system, so I know a little about it. got a question about maintenance
programs on XP.

Standard maintenance programs like Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter
are included with XP and are found in the usually folders, but Scan Disk is
now gone and has been replaced by something called Check Disk, which is
hidden away and harder to find.

Why did Microsoft change the name of Scan Disk and why did they hide
Check Disk under layers of programs, files and right-clicks? In other
words, why isn't is listed next to Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter?

1. Open XP's "Help and Support".
2. Look under "Pick a Help topic".
3. Click on "Performance and Maintenance"

They did'nt. XP is an NT based operating system.
NT based OSs (NT/2000/XP/2003) have always used check disk.

Scandisk is for DOS based OSs like 95/98/ME.

and why did they hide

If you right click a drive and choose properties, it is right next to both.
If you mean in the start menu under system tools, you would have
to ask the designers

No big deal! It is located in C:\windows\system32. If you wish, you can pin
it to the start list along with disk cleanup and defrag.
