chart legend formatting

I'm creating a pie chart in PPT 2007. In previous versions, the legend
looked single spaced. In 2007, it appears to be double-spaced and I can't
figure out how to make the spacing smaller. The Home tab doesn't have
paragraph spacing as an option. Legend Formatting options do not include
paragraph or line spacing options either. I can change the size of the
legend, but it cuts off the last item. Any ideas?

Hello,

There is actually a text spacing option, but a bit difficult to find. Try
to select the actual text box within the legend (you will need to select the
legend first, and then select the text entry). If you then right-click on
your selected box, and select the "font" menu item. Then select the
character spacing tab . The options are located there.

Hi Glen,
Thanks for answering. Unfortunately, the character spacing in that dialog
is only for the spacing between characters, not lines.

I want to change the distance between the lines of text. I can select the
single text boxes within the legend for each item. What I want to do is
reduce the size of the space between the lines, not within them.

PPT used to default to looking as if it was single spaced, now it seems to
default to a double-spaced format. If you have any other ideas I'd love to
hear them!

Thanks -- Julie

Select the legend, choose the Home tab, then click the little square sybol
at the lower right of the Paragraph group to open the Paragraph Format
dialog.

In the Spacing section, change Single to Multiple. Put in something like .8
to decrease the line spacing below single spacing. (Single space = 1.0)
Adjusting either space before or space after might help also. Problem is,
the legend markers don't move with the line spacing. Or they don't seem to
here, anyway. In that case, you may actually have better luck just dragging
the bottom edge of the legend frame, though.

For what it's worth, the legend in the default pie chart sure looks single
spaced to me.
