Charging Issues

The Battery in my model dv9000 computer is dead. It is plugged into AC power
and the computer works fine. The battery icon shows AC power is connected
but, the lightning bolt isn't showing indicating that the battery is not
charging.

Is there a question? If the battery is bad replace it.

I don't think there is a lightning bolt, but rather a tooltip, that should
show you your battery level, and its charging status (hover your mouse over
the icon). Too, the battery icon will increasinging fill with a blue color,
the more it's charged. The Windows Mobility Center shortcut (Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories), which you may want to copy to your desktop, will
also show your battery status. In Help and Support, do a search for Battery
Meter for more details.

On the bottom right side of my task bar there is a two prong plug with a wire
indicating that my laptop is plugged into AC power. My battery is dead, and
there should be a small blue lightning bolt over the plug showing that the
battery is charging. My computer is only 6 months old and until now has never
had a battery issue, or charging whichever it is.

Have you been using it on battery at all? If you unplug the A/C does the
laptop loose power?

I don't think David is the only one with this problem. I have found on the
web that other people are having this problem. I'm also having this problem.
I recently bought a Sony Vaio CR190 and it's less than 3 weeks old. The
battery does not get charged past 50%. It keeps saying, plugged in, not
charging. Sony sent me a new battery and the same problem is happening. The
laptop is plugged into the AC adapter but the battery does not get charged.
I do not think this is a bad battery problem, but Vista itself as too many
people with brand NEW notebooks running on Vista are having this problem. Is
there a setting that we don't know about? There must be because the system
knows to stop charging at 50%.

ive been having this same problem, and my friend who is a complete computer
freak told me to send it in and get it fixed. he said it might be something
wrong with the power and this could cause the fan to stop spinning and break
the computer all together.

I am having the same problem. It cannot be the brand of computer, because all
of us have listed different brands.

For the members using Sony VAIO Laptops, i have a solution for you This
comes straight from the VAIO Support Website;

This issue will occur if the Battery Care Function utility, which is
disabled by default, has been enabled. This utility is accessed through VAIO
Central and limits the amount the battery will be charged. Follow this
procedure to disable or reconfigure the Battery Care Function utility
settings.

Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click VAIO Central.
NOTE: If prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control
prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password or click Continue.

In the VAIO Central window, click the List tab.
On the List tab, double click Battery Care Function.
In the Battery Care Function window, to disable the Battery Care Function
utility, click to clear the check mark from the box next to Enable Battery
Care Function.
To leave the Battery Care Function utility enabled but change the
configuration settings, in the Battery Care Function Settings section, click
to select the desired setting.
NOTES:

There are three different options in the Battery Care Function Settings
section:
Battery Care Function - The battery charge level will be about 80% of a
fully charged battery, however, this mode prevents battery degradation and is
more effective if you usually use the computer with battery power.
Super Battery Care Function - The battery charge level will be about 50% of
a fully charged battery, however, this mode prevents battery degradation and
is more effective if you usually use the computer with the AC adapter.
The settings for Battery Care Function on each battery... - This selection
gives you the ability to customize the battery settings. If this option is
selected, the battery charge level can be set to either 100%, 80% or 50% by
clicking the down arrow and selecting the desired charge level.
When the Battery Care Function utility is enabled and configured to any
setting other than 100%, depending on the selection made, the battery will
only charge up to the 80% or 50% charge level.

Once all desired configuration changes have been made, click the OK button.
In the VAIO Central window, click the X in the upper right corner to close
the window.
Restart the computer.
