Changing to IE 7

I am using IE6 now with XP & Outlook 2002. Is there any major advantage to
installing IE 7 Beta 3 or problems?

Hi,
Serious problems with IE7 have been rare, but it's still in beta testing.
There's *always* the possibility (however slim) that you would have to
reformat and reinstall Windows. I wouldn't recommend installing beta
software on a machine which contained important data.

Hope this helps,

Hello MPA
Why not read for yourself.
It is suggested here;
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/default.mspx

That you go here for newsgroups
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

And here for web(if you dare)
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

Should be enough info for you to make an informed decision - hope you make
the right choice ;-)

Hi. I just upgraded to IE Beta 7 Beta 3. What I have found as a
disadvantage is a lot of websites do not load coorectly or look right. Also
some sites that use SSL security do not show up as secure even though they
are. What I did was download Mozilla Fifefox browser to use if I couldn't
see a site properly or gain a secure connection. As far as major advantages
I don't think there are really any except perhaps the adiition of a phising
filter. hope this is helpful.

Well I tried that...

Desktop shortcuts randomly caused IE to part load then hang. When
manually killed, I was told that "There was a problem sending the
command to the program". Microsoft didn't want to know.

Other times it would suddenly announce that it had encountered a problem
and had to close - although if you ignored this, it would keep on working.

So I tried to revert to the previous restore point. XP wouldn't let me.

I now use Firefox and Thunderbird.

That's the point. I reported the bug and they blamed my toolbars. When I
removed all of the toolbars, it still did the same thing!

All I can say is that I found it hard enough to register as a beta
tester, and even harder to report the problem. Their reply was "we can't
reproduce this - it's probably caused by a toolbar", whereupon they
closed the issue. No doubt there were also links that I overlooked, but
surely if they want people to help with beta testing, they should make
it a simple, straightforward process, not expect you to jump through
several hoops just to get started.

I wasn't aware of that newsgroup. I have now subscribed to it, and will
post the problems there to see if anybody else has encountered them.
Thank you for the info.

I think it typical of MS - this is the way they seem to treat those prepared
to test their software for them.
