Changing number format.

I have Word 2007 and I know that it's easier to go through and format an
already existing List Number style. to get the alignment I want. However, I
**REALLY**, **REALLY** want to know how how to change it in the "Define New
Number Format" box.

When I open the dialog box the alignment box may say left, but the preview
still shows the numbers in other positions. It doesn't matter if I open the
"Define New
Number Format" box from either the "Multilevel Lists" or "Numbering" buttons.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what is wrong here, but I would exit Word and then delete the
ListGal.dat file (found in the user profile) to restore the default settings
for list formats.

However, you have already suggested the only long-term solution. :) You
will have to create a list style if you want to reliably store all aspects
of numbering formatting for later re-use.

I was creating a style sheet with numbered lists and I was finding that they
weren't indenting how I set them up. I couldn't change it using the "Define
New Number Format" dialog. What I did was right-click an item in the
numbered list and select "Adjust List Indents..." and set up the indents
that way.
