Changing folder tree behaviour in Windows Explorer

R

Roger

Hello everyone!

One thing that's been bothering me in Windows Explorer in Windows XP is that
if I select a folder containing subfolders in the folder tree it will get
expanded so all subfolders are displayed too. If I then select another
folder the first one is no longer expanded and the newly selected folder
will have all its folders displayed. This also results in the annoying
effect that if the subfolders have many files in them it can a couple
seconds to access the folder.

Is there any way I can stop Windows Explorer to behave this way and be more
like the "good old" Explorer in Windows 98? Or do I have to use another file
manager to avoid this?

Thanks in advance!

Try this.

Open Folder Options...
Start | Run | Type: control folders | Click OK |
View tab | UNSelect: Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list |
Click Apply | Click OK

Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list
[[Click a folder in Windows Explorer to automatically display its contents
as well as all subfolders within that folder. All other folders are
automatically closed when a different folder is clicked. Click the plus or
minus sign to hide or display other folders and their contents, without
closing previously opened folders.]]
