changing company name on PC

When setting up a new computer, you are asked to enter
name and orginization. We entered our company name on 200
+ PCs and now we have been purchased by a new company and
they don't want the old company name left anywhere. How
can I change the company name the PCs are registered to?

try this util

in the Misc button is a nice easy change owner and organisation option
.... as well as it being a good registry cleaner

Hi,

give this a try.

Open regedit

goto

My Computer\HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\MS Setup
(ACME)\User Info

You can change the info from there.

There is no MS Setup folder in my regedit directory. I get
as far as My
Computer\HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\ and there
is no MS Setup folder in there.

Greetings --

To fix the information for Win2K, you can use Start > Run >
Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

&

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

I'd then suggest exporting the registry keys and adding a simple
batch file to your login scripts so you won't have to manually visit
200 PCs.

How this will affect the names displayed in previously installed
applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some
read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read
it only during installation.

MVP Doug Knox has a utility to do this, both a VBScript version and an ..exe version. While the page says it is for Windows XP, it also will work on Windows 2000. Look at the VBScript code and you should see how to easily modify it to set the information without using the InputBox that is currently used.
