Changing bg color when a certain number is entered

I want to change the background color of cells automatically when
certain number is entered. If the number is less than or equal to 500
I want the bg color to change from white to green, if it's over 5k an
under 100k then I want it to change from white to yellow and if it'
equal to or greater than 100k I want it to change from white to red.

Does anyone know how to do this? I'm not too good with macros.

Thanks

Are you sure you want to use a macro to do this..

It sounds like Conditional Formatting may suit your need

I thought a macro was my only option. I dont even know what "Conditiona
Formatting" means

Use conditional formatting. No macro needed.

I applied Conditional Formatting to get the desired effects, but I don
want to have to enter the conditions every time. I want the bg color t
change as soon as I enter the number. I want something that run
"behind the scenes" as I edit my Excel document. Is this possible?

Thanks for the suggestion though. Neat feature

Conditional Formatting is still the easiest option. Just copy and past
special (format only) to the whole worksheet

If you mean: change the colour as I am typing - this is not possible.
Conditional Formatting only works once you've finished editting a cell.

If you mean: I have to apply conditional formatting to each new cell I use -
you can apply conditional formatting to an entire column and/or row.

I want to see the effects as I work instead of stopping to copy an
paste ever so often

Oh I guess the cells do change bg color after I enter a number and pres
enter. If I'm still in that column anyway.

I guess this will do. Thanks

Hi
there's no way to change the color while typing. So you first have to
finish the entry. after this conditional format will change your
formats

He means to do it one time to the areas that you will ever work in.

then you don't have to stop and copy. You set up the sheet with the formula
pre-entered. then start your work.
