Howdy, folks! I had to change out my PS in my Socket-478-based computer (P4
3.4GHz w/2GB RAM) because the old PS quit turning off; and found that it now
works fine (it actually turns off when I tell it to do so), but Standby and
Hibernate both go into "blue interrupt heaven". This computer is on a
dial-up connection, so the last thing I really want to have to do is RESTORE
- but I know that is probably the easy solution.

Can anyone tell me some other way to get the computer to recognize that it
has a new PS and operate occordingly? Before, Hibernate worked fine - as
long as I reached behind the computer and flipped the main switch on the
power supply.

Thanks, much, folks!

OK - got and read through that, JS - but I guess my question better stated
is: "what do I have to do to my current install of XP/Pro w/SP2 to make it
understand and use the newer ATI 2.01 Power Supply correctly?"

I think it's not a software (Windows) issue, more like a motherboard/bios
issue. Your motherboard may not be able to signal the power supply
correctly. Would not hurt to double check the BIOS settings also. Please
keep in mind that all this is just a guess on my part.

Yes, that was my first guess - but - the 1.02 PS could put the motherboard
into Hibernate or Standby mode with no problem. I've reviewed the BIOS
settings, and didn't find anything other than an option to allow a press of
the SPACEBAR to kick the PS on without having to open up the door and
pressing the button.

When I try to put it into Hibernate mode, it goes to the screen showing
"Hibernating" but right after that the screen goes blank and stays that way.
If I try to Standby it just seems to go into interrupt heaven somewhere and
the lights never stop blinking but the display it blank, so I don't know what
is actually happening in either case. hmmm... I suppose it will get
'better' when I load the next SP - but I sure would like to figure out how to
get it to do as it should before then: who knows when that might be?

Hi,

You may need to cap the +5V power head to position 2&3, some mobo is set to
1&2 by default, refer to the mobo user manual first.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

further to my previous messages, pls also check the virtual memory setting,
better to set it around 1.5GB or more.
