Change XPHome serial?

My wife is getting a new laptop and wants all her stuff transferred to
it. The new laptop will come with XPHome. I had planned to take an
Acronis True Image of her old system and restore it to the new one but I
don't know what will happen with the old XPH serial being different from
the new one. Should I restore the old image then do a repair install
over the top? will that correct to the new XP serial?

On a laptop, it's likely an image of the other system would not have the drivers the laptop needed. I would install fresh all the
extra apps on the new system, and use a save from the Fast wizard.

If you chose to image the system, it MIGHT work, though the Product key, and Activation status are the least of the worries. The
image would use the old key.

Good point. I had forgotten about the different drivers!

Never used that, now is the time to start.

Then that idea is out, as I need to use the new key as the old XP will
be sold on with the old machine.

Xp has a transfer wizard but it's limited. Suggest you look here;

Looks interesting but I still need to get round the XP serial number as
