Change Visual Effects

Hi all,
I need to change Visual Effects settings, not using GUI (Advanced tab >
Settings > Performance, Visual Effects) but through registry or another
automatic method.

Can it be done?

I've found this ( http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=10021 ) but it
just changes the V beside the settings in the GUI, but it doesn't actually
change anything in Windows.

Display Properties | Appearance tab | Effects button |

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Value Name: SmoothScroll
Value Name: FontSmoothing
Value Name: FontSmoothingType
Value Name: UserPreferencesMask.... This one's complicated.

SmoothScroll, FontSmoothing and FontSmoothingType are available from the
Effects button.

UserPreferencesMask handles: Enable combo box animation, Enable cursor
shadow, Enable list box animation, Enable menu animation, Enable menu
fading, Enable menu selection fading, Enable mouse hot tracking effects,
Enable tooltip animation, Enable tooltip fade and Show Windows version on
desktop.
