Change the name on a User Folder

Marty

When I setup my computer on WIN XP the system setup my
user folder under my full name. I want to change it to
just show my first name. When I try to change it, the
system displays a message that states "this is a system
folder and cannot be moved or renamed". This user folder
in the Documents and Settings directory. Is there a way
to change the name of the folder without reloading the
operation system.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.....Marty

Generally the user folder has the same name as your username for logging
into Windows, so you cannot change it without changing your username.

I ran into this also. You change the user name for logging on but the folder
name remains the same.
I changed the folder name from a different user profile but it didn't work.
XP just recreated the old folder name at the next logon. Now there were 2
folders for the same user. Fortunately for me this happen early, before
setting any user preferences for that person, so I just deleted the user and
the folder and started over with the name she wanted.
I haven't tried it yet, but when you delete a user you are asked if you want
to save or transfer that users settings. Maybe if you set up a new user you
could transfer your settings to it upon deletion of the old name.
I'd wait for "the old wise ones" to concur on this before I did it though
;-)
