Change program size on Taskbar?

C

Craig

Is it possible to change the size of the little box on the taskbar for each
program that is open? I know that I can group them using Tweak, but I would
like to make them shorter horizontally. That way I could get more on the
taskbar. About half the size would be nice.

Is this possible with some sort of tweak or registry edit?

Craig

C

Craig

That works, but they are a little too small. I tried changing the value,
but it didn't make a difference. What is the logic behind the -285? And can
I make them a little bigger?

The -285 is the setting for the size the script uses. The default value,
actually doesn't exist, but should be equal to -2310. Adjust the numbers
to something in between (-1350 is close to halfway) and find a number that
you like.

Kelly has also written the Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! utility, which has the
Small and Normal settings, and she's re-working it now to offer in between
options. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm The modified
version should be up tonight or tomorrow.

Craig

Thanks. I will give this a shot.

and BTW I want to apologize to Kelly...after all this time reading these
boards, I just assumed you were a male. I now realize from Doug's last
email that you are female.

Sorry,

Craig

C

Craig

Cool. I tried it and it work. I figured out what I was doing wrong. I saw
that the number was "-"285, so I just assumed that increasing the number
(going towards positive numbers) would make it larger. I set it to -1350.
Worked perfect! Thanks again.

One more question on etiquette within this group. I have been top posting,
since I noticed that most everyone else does, is this acceptable in this
group?

Technically, newsgroup ettiquette (sp?) calls for bottom posting, but its
about a 50/50 split on whether people prefer top or bottom posting. I find
that top posting makes it easier to read the replies to a post. And that's
also the OE default, with no way to change it via the user interface :)

And yes, that's an odd setting. It wants a negative number for some
reason............

Doug: And yes, that's an odd setting.
Doug: It wants a negative number for some reason...

"-" indicates that the unit of measurement is "twips",
where 15 twips = 1 pixel

For example, in...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-
us/regentry/58585.asp

| HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\CaptionWidth
| Data type Range Default value
| REG_SZ Number of twips -270 (270 twips)
| Description
| Specifies the width of caption buttons.

Unfortunately, the following link on that page still does
not work...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-
us/regentry/startPopups('Twips')

Neither does this link...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-
us/gloss/reskitgloss.asp
'Twips'

After four hours of searching
".../windows2000/techinfo/reskit/...", I have still not
located the definition of 'Twips' that I had found ten
months ago, namely, "15 twips = 1 pixel".
