Change of secondary hard drive

I've just replaced a 40Gb IBM Deskstart IDE hard drive with an 80Gb Hitachi
IDE hard drive. The HD appears at startup and appears to be functioning
correctly in the device manager, however, when i click on My Computer it only
recognises the original C drive, and not the replacement secondary drive.
They are both on the same ribbon cable, and both devices are set to cable
select.

Slave drive enabled in bios ? e.g. not set to "None."

....using a "cable select" type ribbon cable ?
"They are both on the same ribbon cable, and both devices are set to "cable
select." ?

If a plain IDE cable (i.e. not a CS cable), set jumpers to master and slave,
on master and slave drives.

You can tell if it's a CS cable, one the cores near one of the plugs has a
little bit punched out.
