Chuck, thank you!
I'll be here, and I can watch this thread. No sweat.

Chuck, someone online in the xbox newsgroup said that he had the same
problem and then upgraded to a newer build of XBMC ( xbox media center ). He
could connect to Vista then. So I'm trying to wait now for him to walk me
through updating to this new build and then will see if it works. i will for
sure post in here again to say what happens.

I want to thank you and I hope you feel good and proud of yourself for
trying to help me out. I appreciate it and hope that you feel good about
helping.

Joe

Thanks, Joe. The Internet is a way of connecting to people, it's not just
an
end to itself. So my web site uses the Internet to connect, and at the
same
advises about the connection. And Blogger lets me develop my web site
almost as
stream of consciousness.

Chuck, we got the networking to work finally. So I updated the xbox media
center to an April 29 build. It was able to see both xp and vista. I could
connect to Vista and load media, photos and stuff. The xbox media center
does networking slightly different in this new build then what I used. I was
using a build from 2006 sometime. June or something. They must have changed
something to make it work with Vista. WHEW!!!!

That's great, Joe!

Do me a favour please and look at the network stack. See if NetBT is included
now, or if there's another change.

Do you have a link to the XBox forum, where you found this update recommended?

What do you mean when you say network stack?
There isn't any forum or web page that recomends this as a fix or anything,
but there is a web site for the xbox media center. this is also something
you may like to put on yer web site. I had issues with an old build, but a
new build fixed the connection issues somehow.

The web site for Xbox media center is

http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/

The guy who makes his own build and I installed his is

http://217.118.215.116/

He takes the orriginal xbox media center and does a real small
change/addition and releases his own. There is a readme type page letting
you know of changes and what not, but I didn't go through it.

The symptoms that you were having (before loading the Media Center latest build)
is seen here pretty frequently. It's usually a problem with NetBT not being
enabled consistently, or a personal firewall not properly set, on any one
computer in the LAN.

So I suggested that you check NetBT on the XBox.
Chuck, thanks. Well, there's nothing to set on the xbox. Also I have
disabled and enabled NetBios in vista and it makes no difference. Xp to
Vista works fine though no matter what. xbox to XP works fine too. Just no
xp to vista for me.
That is typical of a NetBT setting mismatch.

The network stack includes the network components that let any computer (or
XBox) share files and printers with other computers.

So, with the latest XBMC, I am wondering what changes in the network stack you
noted. On a normal Windows OS, you examine / update the network stack using the
Local Area Connection Properties wizard.

Have you been using a custom XBMC from this guy all along? Is that better than
a standard Windows Media Center Extender?

I've been using my orrigianl xbox 1 as a media streaming device for a couple
years or so. I just have it on my lan to stream music and video from my pcs
so I can watch them on my TV and listen that way instead of burning mp3 cds.

Xbox Media Center is much better then using any media center extender
available because it supports pretty much every single video and audio
format. Not 100%, but I'd say over 98% of what's out there. The xbox 360
won't support and work with anything but wmv and MS own crud for the most
part. Plus the UI of media center on the xbox is way better then using the
360. You get an RSS string of text and a nice weather thing plus you can
browse the lan and stream the media. it does pictures etc too. It does some
script stuff that uses the web for stuff. I don't know yet what it does do
since I have the newest build. Haven't checked it out yet.

The readme didn't say anything about what might have changed in the
networking parts of it. I didn't see anything mentioned at least.
