CF boot nightmare.

A

Angus

I have a VIA ML8000 motherboard so fairly standard cepc.

Trying to put XPe on a 512MB SanDisk UltraII (commerical) flash using a IDE
to CF convertor.
(can boot Dos & WinCE from this device.)

Image has been tested using a harddisk with partition of 500MB and all is
well.

Can not get the CF to boot.

I boot into DOS
Format the CF
Use BootPrep
Copy XPe image files on to CF

Try booting and get :

"ntldr is missing"

Can someone put me out of my misery - please !

Thanks
Angus

Angus,

ntldr missing mean that boot sector from active partition was loaded and
executed, but wonder something.

Have you used fdisk to make partitions and set first partition active?
Then format.
Then bootprep
Then file copy from on your dev machine.

Slobodan

Hi Angus,

I noticed you mentioned CE a few times. If you have used other MS
development products you have an option for a debug build before a release
build. XPe gives you this option in TD however it doesn't work. (At least it
didin't with SP1, I'm not sure about SP2) If you are trying a debug build,
change it to release and try again.

HTH,
Brad
