certain types of link crashes IE

This is about my new Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop I just received a few days
ago. Technical support there was unable to solve my problem.

This is a problem that crashes IE, or firefox, when I try to click a link that
has embedded external program call in it.

An example of this type of link is:

synacast://09jN1+TK3K3ny6eV0ajOoKeSo6bOnKOZoNLSltidoKKZnNucqNajnqjL0dWc5pzI2dSpm66XpZbayuPKrTQTM1Q7HkIllt3G3dXg36TI0xMUHl01NRMVo6iVpaKnvN7U553TyuPK5OaazNmfoaCfnJzR39epm6ednqGloqSWoKKam6edqqicmaafqKCcmZzQ363hzebZqp+bn6aToqCll6eXpp6dnK6fqKCcmbHa1ODgo6WUpqGamquYnqGknKScpKqkmaaVq+XQ2eqfn5+emq6Toamll6eVop6emqafqKCcmbHa1ODgo6WUoqGkl6eeqZ6dmaiToqGjo66VoKCn3dnV5KqbmKyVnqKcoqSWoqaamqmWqqicobHZ0+Dgo6WUpqGamquYnqGknKSco6qkmZzZ2NXZzrPV4NzV39vK3g==

Synacast, aka pplive, is a web broadcast program that I can use to watch TV
online.

I have three following systems that WORKS perfectly with synacast (both IE
and firefox):
HP A1230N Win XP MCE AMD Athlon 3700+
IBM T42P Win XP Pro Pentium M 2GHz
Toshiba S1216 Win XP Home Celeron M 1.6G

All of my above systems have the latest upgrades and software versions.

My new Dell laptop also have the latest software upgrades and versions and the
Dell also has my own personal firewall/antivirus, which is the same as in my
other systems.

When I click on a synacast link, or put in address line, on my Dell laptop
on either IE or firefox give a windows error report is generated and "the
program has to close...". This error is very repeatable.

I restored Dell to its original factory condition without any upgrades the
same problem occurs. Very repeatable.

However if I manually open synacast enter the link information on to
synacast then synacast works fine. But as you can see the link is not easy to
manually
enter in. So the synacast program itself works correctly.

So the problem becomes that I cannot click on the links inside IE or firefox
or simply any browser.

In conclusion, I am unable to "call" synacast from IE or firefox. This is
the things that I know:
1. Not a problem with the browser, as both IE and firefox crashes, and both
IE and firefox works on my other systems
2. Not a problem with Windows it self--my other systems have XP home/MCE/Pro
and they all work fine.
3. Not a problem with synacast, as I can get it to work manually.

So it seems to me that this problem is caused by either an erroneous
installation in Win XP MCE. Anyone has any idea on how to get those links to
work?

Could it be a Dell utility running in the background. Type msconfig into the
run command and check the startup items, if there are any Dell specific try
unchecking them temporarily, reboot and try your link again.

I disabled all Dell programs I can think of already, still link doesn't work.

Another thing, if I copy the link and paste it in Start->run, nothing
happens, however if I do the same on my other systems, the synacast program
loads properly.

It is obviously some problem with Windows itself, or like you said, some
hidden dell program causing it.

Just another thought, have you checked the security setting for IE or popup
settings. (I'm running out of ideas already)

The link should not make a popup under the browser, and also remember firefox
too failed to open it up, where as my other systems works for both IE and
firefox without any messing with security settings.
