CD's wont burn anymore

I recently aquired this computer and was downloading music just fine and also
burning CD's. I noticed that the burned CD's wouldn't play in some players,
but my biggest concern now is I cant get the burner to burn at all, can
anyone help?

Are you burning audio or data/MP3 CDs? Are you uding blank CD-Rs or CD-RWs?

Are there any visible symptoms of the burner failure e.g. error messages?
