I repair computers for a living and have little trouble
solving most problems that I encounter with the help of
personal experience or that of the wonderful community of
computer users that generously post their input on the
web. However, I am stumped. This is the 3rd machine that
I have encountered that the CDRW has simply quit
functioning. Brand of unit does not matter. I replpaced a
Phillips with a new LG only to have the LG not be
recognised by the software. Replacing the software has no
effect. I've un-installed Nero and installed Sony's
burning software with negative results. I scoured the MS
data base only to find close problems but not an exact
answer. Most answers on the web suggest replacing
software or the drives themselves. These drives work fine
on other machines. The only common thread with these 3
machines is that they all use XP as the OS (Pro and Home).
One machine is an HP with a Phillips CDRW, the 2nd is a
custom built unit with an MSI motherboard and MSI CDRW,
the 3rd is a Sony VIAO laptop.
