CDROM Drive does not recognize blank CDs

I have a laptop which I just did a clean install of XP Professional. After
the install the CD Drive works fine reads CDs, DVDs no problem. Then I put a
blank CD in to write to and click on the drive and it says D:\ not accessable
and will not recognize a blank CD at all, tried 3 different brands. I then
went under Media player to see if it recognized any CDRW drives and it does
not. I have updated the driver from Philips SCB5265 and running out of other
things to try. Any suggestions would be great.

Thank you.

Are you sure this is a burner? Your subject line says "CDROM" and CD-ROM
drives are Read Only and not burners. Since you have a laptop, you
can't easily swap drives out so 1) refer to your purchase documents for
your laptop specs; 2) if you really have a CD-RW drive contact the
laptop mftr.'s tech support for repair/replacement.

Yes I am sure that this is a CDRW I checked the spec sheet when I first had
the problem.
