cdplayer.exe is not playing cd's!

Use Windows Media Player. I'm dont even think Windows XP
uses cdplayer.exe anymore, it's all in WMP9

C

Yes, maybe u hate using WMP9 because u r telling it to
Copy from CD, All u have to do is goto Now Playing and
select the drive with the audio CD in it! Dont try to
goto Copy From CD if all u want to do is play the CD.

Damn and I thought it was just me that was having trouble
playing CD's I just posted here yesterday asking for help
with this very same issue, I've spent four days now
trying to fix this. Oh well it's been four weeks now I
guess it's time to reload the OS again.

Are you even READING what I'm TYPING?!?!?! When the hell
did I EVER say I was using Copy From CD?!?!?!

I'm sorry man, but you need to read posts more thoroughly
before you answer.

I *AM* using the NOW PLAYING tab! As my subject line
says, THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH CDPLAYER.EXE, NOT WMP 9!!!!!!

When I insert a CD, I have configured my system to do
absolutely nothing so WMP 9 doesn't open automatically.
I then open cdplayer.exe, and it scans the drive, then
recognizes my cd and says "new artist", but THEN it goes
back to telling me the drive is empty!

Now I suppose you're going to tell me to use WMP 9 again,
aren't you?

No, I hate using WMP 9, because when I play my CD's using
WMP 9, it creates WMA's from which to play INSTEAD OF THE
CD, while it's "playing" my CD.

Do you get what I'm saying? If not, then why are you
participating in this newsgroup? geez.. I didn't think
this was all that difficult to understand.

Tim

Another thing I thought of to say is this:

What's the freakin' point in having an audio cable
running from my cd-rom drive to my sound card when IT'S
NOT EVEN BEING USED?!?!?! I want it to be used again. I
DON'T want to be playing cd's through the E-IDE cable as
it's doing now. It uses up more of my processor than
absolutely necessary. When I had Windows 98, it would
use just the audio cable, and had almost no affect on the
processor.

I want it to be like that again.

The newest sound cards are being sold WITH audio cables,
but why make them anymore if Windows XP isn't going to
USE them?!

Tim

Al,

If re-installing Windows XP works, please let me know
either through e-mail, or via this newsgroup. Thanks!

I think u need to start reading other posts in the news
group. go into My computer, right click on the cd-rom
drive, select properties, and goto autorun, u have the
autorun set for audio files to copy from the cd, thanks
for searching the reading other posts in the newsgroups ;)

T

Tim

Sorry, no I don't. I already checked that. In fact, I
SAID that I checked that before you even made that
suggestion. But I double checked anyway just to be
sure. Oh, and it's not "autorun", it's "AutoPlay". If I
did have it selected, it would probably open up Windows
Media Player with the Copy to CD tab selected.

You shouldn't assume things. It seems to me that you're
assuming that I don't know very much about computers, and
it also seems like you're assuming that I didn't read
other posts in the newsgroups. I sat here for nearly 2
hours looking through the newsgroups to see if I could
find the answer to my question before I asked the
question. So don't you tell me that I should read the
other posts in the newsgroups.

I'll tell you one thing... this is the first computer
problem that I've had where I just have no idea how to
fix it (well, without going back to Windows 98). I don't
consider it a PROBLEM, per se, but it is more of a
nuisance.

I play Continuum (used to be Subspace). It's a client
that allows me to play various zones. The zone I play is
Death Star Battle (http://www.deathstarbattle.com),
however, that is irrelavent. When I was running Windows
98, I'd use the CD Player accessory (cdplayer.exe) to
play my cd's. It had no adverse affect on the
performance of the game. The fps were high. However,
when I tried playing an mp3, the framerate went way down
to around 5-10 fps. The same happens when I play cd's
using Windows Media Player 9, because it's not going
directly from the cd-rom drive to the sound card. It's
going from the cd-rom drive, through the e-ide cable (how
else? heh) to the hard drive, gets converted to a .WMA
file, and is played that way. I've tried about 15 other
cd players out there, and I've come to the conclusion
that this is just how Windows XP plays cd's.

But whatever... you're not providing any useful help
anyway. The only suggestions you've made so far are
things I've already said that I've done in my initial
post.

cd-analog vs cd-digital

hi, if you're using a soundblaster live u'd better connect your cd-drive or writer to your soundcard using an internal s/pdif-cable. Than switch off "digital playback of cd-audio" in the settings-tab of your cd-player. This cable is a rarely used wire but cheap to get and gives a much nicer sound than the ordinary cd-digital over ide or analog. The only negative thing is that u won't have any visualisations or other stuff whatsoever.

Me too, i just wanna hear the music in a proper way without stuffing up my cpu so this system is cheap and smooth ;-)
