CdCoverCreator, do not install, do not use!

Hi, I was looking for a proggie to create a cover and booklet for my
new CD. I was directed from some messages on this newsgroup to try
CdCoverCreator. So I went to the site, downloaded the newest version
2.4, did not install, crashed my computer, so I went back a version,
to, 6.3, again, same result. Then I emailed the company and the
creator messaged back and gave me another site to download just the
zip file, not the installer. Right there I got very suspicious, but I
followed his lead, unzipped and put in its own folder. Well, the
program looks good sitting there in its new folder, but DO NOT, I
mean, DO NOT USE< it really crashed my computer, sending up all sorts
of faults, and errors, so many, I lost count. I contacted Matthias-M
Christen and told him to cease and desist with this software. I am
really serious, I will not put up with this behavior from a program
that reacts like this. I am part owner of a publishing company that
has these diseases taken off the Web weekly. Hope I didn't overrant,
haha, for your protection, Derrick

No need to be suspicious about that- the same suggestion also appears on
the faq page:

Maybe it's a problem peculiar to your system. The mere fact that you had
problems installing this freeware in no way supports the conclusion you
have immediately leapt to, that the software is a "disease."

What operating system are you using? Did you have your AV and a bunch of
other stuff running when you attempted the install? Please provide us
with more details.

Since you are a self-confessed expert at removing such "diseases" from the
web, you should have no difficulty providing us with more clear evidence
that the program, and not you or your system, are to blame for your
difficulties. Or perhaps by providing more details, you'll enable others
to help you successfully install the software.

And by the way, please provide a link to this publishing company of yours,
and to some of your past success stories. Inquiring minds want to know.

Regards,
Ian.

Idiot!
You try programs on your own risk...
The author should be rewarded for his effort, not yelled at from someone
like you.

Sorry, couldn't resist answering to this!

Yes, but you responded to ME and not to the OP.

I had version 3.4 on my computer, Win98 SE, and I just went back to try
and run it. My computer is not networked but the program displayed a
message it was looking for some files on a network. Had not tried to
use it for a long time and believe it or not it locked my computer up.
Fortunately I do not need it so rather than play with the program I just
deleted it. I believe the program worked before so I may have installed
some software on my computer, since the last time I tried it, that it is
now in conflict with.

Hi,<deleted a bunch of rant>

I'v not had a single problem with it... in fact, I'm quite pleased with it.

I'm the owner of a consulting company that loves freeware and the authors
who provide it. They should be thanked for their efforts, even when their
software doesn't do exactly as you'd please. Not berated because *you*
can't figure out how to make it work. Ask others (such as myself) if
they've had issues with it before you run around calling it a disease.

Yes, your ranting _is_ over the top especially the threat against the
author. I downloaded the program and installed it just so that I can
respond with some credibility. The program installed just fine and
the program ran smoothly. In fact it looks good enough that I will
keep it even though most of the time I just use a Sharpie on my CD's.

I had the same problem. Exception errors and BSOD. Had to uninstall to get
my system back. Win98SE.

Funny, I have had that program for quite a while, and just used it about
an hour ago. No problems here. Running XP SP2.
