CD writer will not write, suggestions?

I just remade my computer (motherboard, CPU, etc.) I had to reinstall
windows XP. Now I can read from both my CD-RW/DVD ROM and my CD-RW/DVD-R,
but can not write to a CD in either. I looked for a new driver from the
manufacturers and windows sites without luck. They both are working fine
according to Device Manager. What to try next? When I try to record
pictures to a CD, the wizard does not recognize that a blank CD is in the
drive (regardless of how many different ones I try). Thanks.

Are you using a blank CD or are you using a blank DVD?
Xp cannot write to a DVD using the wizard, you have to install mastering
software to burn DVD.

It would be helpful to know which program you are using to try to burn CDs.
Are you trying to use Windows XP? Regarding drivers, your optical drives
should be supported by Windows XP without any need for external drivers. You
try uninstalling your optical drives in device manager/hardware and reboot
your PC, forcing Windows XP to find and install these devices again.

You might also check the DVD/CD drive manufacturer's web site to see if the
drives have firmware updates too.

I am using a blank CD-R and trying to use Windows XP to write to it. The two
drives I have are from different manufacturers (LG and NEC), so wouldn't
expect firmware to effect both. Tried to install Roxio easy media creator 7
to use, but my install shield gave me problems with this. I am using the
same hard drive that I have had for a couple of years. Could all the old
material on the HD be causing me heartburn?

If your having problems install software, it may be related. Have you tried
any other burning applications besides Acraptec? (that was misspelled
intentionally)
The problem affects both drives?

Since you remade your computer (re-format / re-install of XP,) did you install
the motherboard chipset drivers? These drivers usually provide the AGP slot,
IRQ control, USB and IDE drivers, which should help.
