I installed a new cd/rw to replace one that had malfunctioned a few days ago. It is the exact same model, type, etc. When I boot up my pc, the light on the front of the cd/rw lights up, so I know that it's recognized by my pc (after I installed it, xp gave the message that new hardware was detected). However, it will not read or write to any type of cd's. The light on the cdrom turns green and then turns red and then does nothing. I also have a dvd player, and it seems to be working fine. I also looked in the advanced system folder to check the error log, and saw the following message beside cdrom: "The driver detected a controller error on \device\cdrom0" and also "The driver detected a controller error on \device\cdrom1", with multiple lines for the same dates
I tried some of the tips that I read in this newsgroup, including deleting my lower filters (there were no upper filters listed), to no avail. Please help me figure this one out. I have been messing with this pc for almost 3 days now and am getting really frustrated
Thank you so much for any advice you can give me!
