cd-rom

I have 2 cd-roms in my tower. One is a samsung cd-rom and
the other is a tdk cd-rw. Neither one will read software
disks but both will play audio cd's. The message
heading "disc is not formatted" comes up when I try to
run from start menu, nothing will
autorun.Subheading "disk corrupted or not using a format
compatible with Windows". I've tried uninstalling but I
know this is not my problem. I think I lost something in
Windows but I'm not sure what. Both drives are recognized
and working properly under device manager. When software
disks are in I can look and see the name of disk, bytes,it
does see the disk. Please help! I need to run turbo tax
before April 15th! Thanks, Josh

Are the disks that won't read CD-R or CD-RW that were burned
using packet writing? (EZCD Direct CD or Nero?) If so you
may have deleted that program or the UDF reader software.

If the disks are burned CDs they may have been damaged or
have deteriorated (aged).

Standard CDs should read if music/audio cds play. But you
could check the properties for the drives and perhaps remove
and reinstall them with the device manager.

Thanks Jim,
The disks are software programs like Turbotax ect., not
home burned. My music/audio cds don't play either. I've
already tried reinstalling with the device manager. I'm
stumped, any other suggestions? Thanks for the info!

I have a similar problem, if I reboot the computer with
the CD in the drive I can then read the CD with out
problems.
