CD-ROM keeps installing itself as "devices with removable storage"

I am going insane....

WindowsXP has my cd-rom drive listed in MyComputer under "Devices with
Removable Storage" which causes the drive to become inaccessible.

This is an internal cd-rom drive. A Philips CDRW4012P to be exact.

I have removed the cd-rom through the device manager, everytime windows
reinstalls it as a removable drive.

I have tried removing the upper and lower filter values from the
registry. No joy.

Anyone else run into this problem?

Devices with Removable Storage are drives like tape drives, floppy drives,
CD drives and DVD drives. The removable part is the media, i.e. the disks,
or tape.

Your CD-ROM drive is just such a drive.
