CD ROM driver corrupted or missing??

Don't know if it was a hack, virus, or me, but I lost the
ability to use my cd rom devices (2). Device Manager says
the driver is corrupted or missing.?!

If this is a recent issue, try using System Restore to take you back to a
time prior to having this issue. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System
Tools\System Restore.

Restore doesn't go back far enough, Thanks. Anyway to
get the system cd-rom driver thats in Xp? Couldn't find
it on this web site. Is it part of a bigger download
group? Whats it called??

The driver that controls the cdrom drives is CDROM.SYS

You may have other issue if youdrives just stopped
working. Have you trued switching the cdrom drive to
another IDE Chain. (I.e. If the CDROM drive is located
on the Primary Slave IDE chain you may want to see if the
drive works in the Secondary Master or Slave IDE chain.
If it works there then you may have a bad IDE cable. If
it does not work there then you may have a bad cdrom
drive or a corrupt driver.

Hope that Helps.

Hi,

This edit will remove the drivers listed in the article below that causes
the message:

Save the file below to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and
double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is
done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

In Device Manager, right click on the CD Rom drives
and "Remove" them, reboot. XP will pick them up and
hopefully correct your problem with a new install of the
drivers.

THANK YOU !!!!!! Edit worked, Restored drives just like
that....... THANK YOU KELLY.

Thanks, I Tried uninstalling and then reinstaling before,
Didn't work then. I tried your reboot just now, same
results,---"Windows cannot load the device driver for
this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.
(Code 39)"--- The driver is there, or at least listed
there. I'm beginning to think that I ran some kind of
malicious code that went into the driver and corrupted
it!!?? Or a hack before the just recent XP security flaw
fix!!! IS THERE ANYBODY THAT CAN RECOMEND HOW TO
REINSTALL THE DRIVER, OR FIND IT FOR THAT MATTER FROM A
WEB SITE. Without the use of the cd-rom I can't get it
off the XP CD. I downloaded the floppy boot that has CD
drivers to reinstall Xp from CD. But that would be to
REINSTALL, and I don't want to waist my last key code.
What would I do then if my HDD crashes and can't unlock
my expensive xp on the new drive!!!!. (DA*N MS)
