CD ROM Drive not showing up

I hope someone can help. I am having a weird problem with my computer.
Al of a sudden today, my cd rom drive is not showing up on my computer
at all. Neither does it do anything when I insert a disc. I typed in
"devmgmt.msc" start/run, and see that there is some problem with it.It
shows this message in the box:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but
cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. (If I can). Can
anyone help at all?

Can you try the drive in another machine? Have you opened the machine,
removed and re-inserted the connections?
