CD-rom drive isn't visable

I have just had to repair an installation of windows 2000
pro. The repair went fine apart from the fact I am now
unable to see my cd re-writer or my cd-rom dvd. Does
anyone know why this is and how to fix it???

check the device manager, cd rom is available or not?
if available and marked as X the check it out
enable/disable.

otherwise run scan for new hardware
