CD-R drive accessibility error

When I try to read a CD-R of family pictures made by my son by clicking on
that drive icon from My Computer (it doesn't start automatically) I get an
error message that the "drive is unaccessible, incorrect function". What
does that mean? He made it using Direct CD and says he tested it in his
WinXP and it worked. Can someone explain what the problem might be? I have
the Win2k Pro OS in a laptop.

Without knowing exactly how he made the slideshow, my guess is that you probably need to have DirectCD on your system in order to read that disc.

FWIW, there are freeware and shareware applications available that will create slideshows that are universal for any Windows system.

IrfanView (freeware) will create customizable JPEG slideshows that can be saved as standalone executables, screensavers, or burned to a CD-R/CD-RW disc that will autorun and contains its own engine.

Eric, I already have Direct CD in my system and it wasn't a slide show, it
was just a drag'n drop copying of photos into a formatted CD. Maybe the CD
is damaged, but I can't understand why the drive is not recognized. Thankd
for the Irfanview information, will check it out. Josie

Packet writing software is know for its little failures. For more reliable use of CD-RW discs, simply use them just like you would a CD-R disc...no formatting required, just a quick erase if it's been used before.

IrfanView is a very powerful/feature rich application, I hope you enjoy it. Here's link just in case (download the plug-ins also):

Thanks for the feedback!

If the the written disk is not closed correctly it will
give these errors when you try & read it in another
drive. Givve it back to the person who created it and ask
them to close it.
