CD - is not accessible. Incorrect function.

My CD player can read disks, but I can no longer write to them. When I put
in a blank disk, I get the error in the Subject line.

I am not using Easy Creator CD or any funky burning software. I've updated
the DriveType in the registry (was a 3, changed to 2), uninstalled and
reinstalled the drivers and started the IMAPI service (it was set to manual).
The Recording tab is not present in the properties dialog.

Any ideas?

thanks

the built-in XP burning IS 'funky burning software'.

Presuming you mean CD Burner drive, not just player:
Check two places

Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services, make sure IMAPI CD Burning shows
as Started. If not, double click it, set Startup type to Automatic,
Apply. Exit and reboot.

Then in My Computer, r-click the drive, Properties, Recording Page and
make sure 'Enable recording' is checked

Yes, it is a burner. I have burned CDs with it before. This seems to have
happened after installation of SP2.

And per my original post, I had already started the IMAPI service and there
is no Recording tab on the Properties page. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the articles, per my original post I pretty much had already
followed those instructions. There are actually two burners (CD, CD/DVD).
Both are listed in the HCL and both show up in the hardware list in Windows
correctly. But neither can burn data or media.
