CD File Search Results in C:\ Location???

Hi, guys!

I'm having an inssue in Windows XP Professional, that when I search files on
CD's (whether burned or from factory), it shows the location as "C:\Documents
and Settings\Dwain L. Sparling\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD
Burning". Thus, when I try to copy files from CD's to my hard drives, I get
this error message:

"Error Copying File or Folder -- Cannot copy file: cannot read from the
source file or disk."

I can, however, browse the CD, and the location is the E:\ drive, like it
should be. The problem only happens when I search. It's annoying, because I
have to go into each folder and retrieve the files one at a time.

Please help!

Dwain

No, actually if *you* pull this stunt again I'll complain to your ISP
and to the people who *really* have the power over this news server.
You are preventing someone from getting help and there was *nothing*
wrong with his/her post. You are behaving destructively.

These newsgroups aren't moderated in the classic Usenet sense, and you
most certainly aren't a moderator here - in any of the Microsoft
newsgroups.

Most probably because there actually is a copy of the file in that
directory - courtesy of the most useless and annoying auto function
Drag n Drop (I hate that option with a vengeance - turn it off as an
absolute unnecessary annoying function!!)

I also take the Search option with a gain of salt - as useful as it
is. Quite often I find that it will look in the desired loaction and
continue looking everywhere else, even when not specified.

Mr. Vogel,

Thanks for sending along the support document number. I looked my problem
up there earlier, but couldn't find anything -- probably because I didn't
know the term "staging". Anyway, I've never experienced this problem until
my most recent PC build (it's been a few years). Something in Windows
must've changed since then... Don't know. But, thanks for your
non-judgmental, concise reply -- it saved the day! Best to you.

Mr. Dwain,

I searched for Search CD.

Glad you got it figured out. Keep having fun. ;-)
