CD/DVDW drive not working after using Nero clean tool

I erased some registry values using Nero's DriverCleanTool and now m
CD/DVD write drive doesn't work anymore. It has power and the driv
opens and closes but my computer is not recognising the drive.
How do I fix this problem without having to reinstall Windows XP?
have 22 episodes of a tv show on my hard drive that I haven't burne
yet and I really don't want to lose them.

I tried removing and reinstalling Nero. I also tried a system restor
and that didn't help.

I also un-installed and re-installed the dvd drive. When I go to devic
manager and goto the drive there is a yellow exclamation point next t
it (it's there before I un-install and it's the same thing after
re-install the drive)

It's a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B (Samsung drive)

Drivers:
CDRAL.DLL, CDRALW2K.SYS

and stopped some Services:
service: CDR4_XP
service: CDRALW2

Hi!
Try to get the latest driver from Samsung.
In the device manager try uninstalling the drive, turn off the comp.
and restart.
If windows picks up the new hardware, when asked point to the latest
driver.
If not, in the device manager do an Update driver and when asked point
to the latest driver.
Unless you really messed up it should work.
There is no way you should reinstall the OS. This should always be the
very very last resort.

I know it is too late for that now, but in the future stop messing
around with the registry, if you dont know what you are doing.
PS. if you have a spare partition you can save your files there or get
an external HD and backup everything, just in case you have to
reinstall. I mean you should have done that anyway as a matter of
course!
Hope it helps!

Undo what you did.

Anyway, look at and remove upper and lower filters.

I wasn't messing around with the registry. I have Nero 7 and the video
is out of sync with the audio when using NeroVision to edit video. Nero
tech support said that there was some sort of driver conflict. They sent
me Nero clean tool. The tool asked me if I wanted to deactivate the
above drivers and I clicked yes, thinking that it would solve the
problem. Well I guess it didn't solve it.

I already tried the un-install and re-install of the dvd drive (the
yellow exclamation keeps showing up) and I contacted Samsug and they
said that they didn't have the driver.

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website

CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM Drive Missing After You Install Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320553

(It'll fix code 41 errors too as per the contents of the last kb article)

Fair enough!
When I had the sync problem with the audio and video, it was solved by
adding more memory. I am not sure if that is your problem or not,
generally you would need at least 521Mb but preferably 1 Gig of
memory.
Cheers

It worked, it actually worked using the link below.
Plus, NeroVision has never worked better editing video.
The newest program version of Nero 7 Ultra Edition (NeroVision) wa
making my Video and Audio way, way out of sync. So I deleted Nero an
installed it again with the installation disk that I bought. Now th
video is in sync with the audio. I will never update Nero again.

Thank you very much for your help.

I do have 1 question though...

I deleted the UpperFilters and LowerFilters.

There is also:

UpperFilters_1
LowerFilters.Bak

Do I just leave them or delete them too. Everything is working now.

They are just back up copies. won't do any harm.
