cd/dvd drive problem xp2 sp2

The Gordons

Hi all,

If I insert a cd/dvd with (say) file 1 and file 2 on it, I then change the
disk to another. The drives do not recognise the newly inserted disk still
showing the files from the first. This happens on both drives. Samsung and
Pioneer 109. Can anyone help. It's very frustrating. Have tried view/refresh
to no avail. Also I notice autoplay has not been working for some time but I
cannot remember if it ever did!!

Thanks

Tony

Hello Tony

A lot of people seem to have this problem and it seems as though it can
have different causes. Here's one thing to check, though.

Try opening Regedit and navigating to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Look for the value Autorun and make sure it is set to 1.
If not, change and reboot.

Hope this helps.

Following are a few possibilities that come to my mind instantly:

1. Have you updated drivers/ firmware of the optical drives? If not go to
their website & download the latest drivers files.

2. Hope you are using quality media, etc Verbatim R/RW DVDs?

3. May be the files haven’t been burnt properly or are corrupt.

4. Your OS may have issues.

Take care,
Regards.

PS: I apologize about my poor English & remember am no MS support just a
newbie!

Did you do the software eject method or just yank it out?

Check/replace the ribbon cable connecting the drives to the system
board. Sounds like the disk change line is borken or a bad connection.
Also could be a driver problem, check for system board driver update
from the system manufacturer.
