cd drive not working

to any body that can help ,
im haveing problems with my cd drive,i can open and eject it,but it doesnt
play any cd`s,makes a slight clicking sound for a few seconds then does
nothing ,did do a check for errors witch stated( 10-err bad block),im still
none the wiser,dvd drive plays ok, any ideas anyone, that will help me and
make my sons day.

I am having the same sort of problem. After restarting the computer all cd
and dvd drives disappear. There is no error message. I have tried all of
the fixes that were listed elsewhere on this site but nothing is happening.
If I get someone in to fix this, the next time your have to restart the
computer the drives disappear again

Have you tried cleaning this drive? I had a similar problem and it needed
cleaning. Worked fine for a while) Then the CD/DVD died a short time later,
Dont know it the cleaning process was coincidental)
Bought a new one and all is fine now.

Also try updating the firmware. Check the CDs for scratches etc.
