CD Drive has disappeared

The CD Drive icon is no longer present in My Computer and
if I try and run a CD it tells me the disk is not in the
drive. Anybody know why this might have happened and how
I can fix it?

It sounds like your cd tray is out of alighment and when
you shut the drawer it does not detect it. Also Check in
bios and try to detect the cd rom automatically

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the drivers - in
Device Manager the CD drive icon has an exclamation mark
over it. The driver is corrupted. Uninstalling it makes
no difference - and I can't exactly reinstall it from a
CD, as CD's cannot be run anymore.
It's not just that the machine doesn't read CDs - it no
longer has a CD drive with which to read them.

I have the same problem now and then. You have 2 options:

1) Install no-cd cracks for games so you dont need cd's
all the time
2) Scan for hardware changes in Device Manager (
Properties of My Computer, under the hardware TAB ) Then
you cddrive is also found again :)

Good luck,
