CD burning over 700mb

WinXP doesnt burn certain files of mine that are just
above the 700mb capacity of my CD-Rs. 800mb ones are
rather expensive so I have been using Nero to finalise
the CDs and thus copy files ranging from 720mb to 750mb.
Is there a possibility that this will damage my CD
Writer? Should I only stick to copying files the Windows
way-below 700mb?

(the files themselves, once written work fine)

thanks

Whether the 800 MB (90 minute) CDs will work on a particular writer is a
matter of matching the disks and writer - either they will work or they
won't, and you will not damage it.

The burner may though be set to turn its laser off when you get to a
certain point - eg older HP and Sony drives were set to cut off at 78 m
30 sec and could not burn a full 80 Min (700MB) disk - they became
coasters because the recording had no recognisable end.

If you have Nero I would use it for the purpose, rather than the inbuilt
burning which may also make assumptions and cut things off in mid
flight.
